Brother released several printers, digital copiers and MFPs based on the same print engine in the summer of 2012, starting with the HL-5450, HL-5470 and HL-6180 in June. The HL-5440 followed in July, as did the DCP-8100 series and multifunction versions of each. Print speeds ranged from 38 pages per minute (ppm) to 42 ppm, and duty cycles from 50,000 to 100,000 pages per month.
The Brother HL-5470 family supplies set is made up of toner cartridges with OEM-rated page yields of 3,000, 8,000 and 12,000 pages, and a separate drum unit rated at 30,000 pages. Neither the toner cartridges nor drum units are chipped, but a flag gear is utilized by the toner cartridges. This flag gear must be reset during remanufacturing for correct printer operation.
